Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been known for giving new actors a chance – he famously cast Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in the roles that launched them to stardom. Now he’s giving the same chance to Anmol Thakeria, the son of Poonam Dhillon and Ashok Thakeria. The film, titled Tuesdays and Fridays for now, is being shot in London. The director hasn’t decided on a leading lady yet, but it will be interesting to see whether he chooses an up and coming actress or someone more well known! Rumour had it that he had chosen Kiera Advani, but that seems uncertain now.
The role was originally offered to Shahid Kapoor, who turned it down – likely because he’ll be busy with his new baby and other upcoming work on Arjun Reddy. It must have been a difficult decision to turn down one of the most successful filmmakers in the industry, so we can only imagine how overwhelmed Shahid is with all the new life changes. However, it will be an excellent opportunity for Anmol to shine, and as someone with famous parents, he’ll have a few extra hurdles to face in winning over audiences. The most recent star kid’s debut was Janhvi Kapoor’s role in Dhadak, and although she acted it well, she faced a lot of criticism for having been handed the role due to her famous parents. Accusations of nepotism clouded the critical reception of her work, but she handled them as gracefully as she could. Hopefully, Anmol will also be able to handle any similar accusations being hurled his way.
Poonam has said that her son has been very “particular and fussy” about the specific type of film he wants to debut in. The initial reception to an actor’s work can make or break their career, and it makes a big difference when they’re able to accept a role from a quality filmmaker such as Bhansali. Nevertheless, a director and a role isn’t everything, and when it comes out, we’ll see if he’s got what it takes to succeed! He must have picked up some acting skills from Poonam Dhillon, whose vast filmography spans from 1978 until now. Most recently, she’s played the stepmother in the soap opera Dil Hi Toh Hal.
In an interview with the media, Poonam offered her opinion that boys should not act before the age of 24 because younger men don’t have the emotional maturity required to emote properly in the film. We’re guessing she thinks that Anmol is finally ready to enter showbiz, and we’re interested to see her son give his debut performance! There hasn’t been a lot more information released about the movie yet, but we’ll surely hear more as the project evolves. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what exciting new opportunity Sanjay Leela Bhansalli has in store for this young actor!
