When most of us are 15 years old, our biggest worries revolve around school, socializing, and possibly work. Kajol’s daughter Nysa has much more to worry about, and Kajol has spoken out about how Nysa has gone through a bunch of “complete nonsense” as a result of her fame. For example, Nysa is often stopped for selfies, and has to travel with security when she leaves the house in Bombay. She’s often targeted for paparazzi photos even though she hasn’t started her career yet, and Kajol has vocally slammed them for doing so, arguing that Nysa should be entitled to her freedom. Nysa already has a significant following on social media, which is also a lot of pressure on someone so young.
Nysa will be in Singapore this year for higher education, so hopefully being away from the country will take some of the spotlight off of her so that she can focus on her studies. Her father Ajay was sad to see her go, but Kajol says she thinks it will be good for her daughter, since she too was in boarding school at the same age. There’s no way of knowing at this point whether her daughter will continue in Kajol’s footsteps and pursue acting or go down a different path, but if she does pursue stardom, she’ll be under a lot of pressure. The recent criticisms of Janhvi Kapoor in her debut movie have been a reminder that the public is highly critical of star kids who can use their connections and name to get roles they may not otherwise have been cast in. This in turn can make it difficult to prove themselves, since accusations of nepotism can cloud critics’ judgements about whether or not they’ve succeeded – as it did with Janhvi.
Whatever Nysa decides to do with her life, her mother Kajol for now is still going strong in the industry. We have all seen her in VIP 2, and this year she’ll be back in Pradeep Sakar’s Helicopter Eela, set to release in September. Her role in the film as a controlling mother doesn’t seem to imitate life, since she seems so positive about Nysa’s education in Singapore. Apparently her husband Ajay is the soft parent while Kajol is more strict, but her comments about sending her kids away to study were that it was “for their own good.” It’s great to see a mother so supportive of her kids’ independence!
Kajol did recently make a trip to Singapore for the unveiling of her wax statue at Madame Tussauds and shared a photo of her and her daughter on the red carpet. The pair seem happy to have been reunited, and they both look beautiful in sleek dresses, Nysa in all black and her mother in a classy black, pink, and white print. We wish Nysa all the best in her studies!
